Twitter Search Bar

This script will add a search form and list of hot topics as a banner on Twitter.com.

Twitter Search Bar

I’ve previously written some scripts that make small modifications to the design of Twitter, help you see threaded Twitter conversations, and even stop unwanted ads on Twitter from being displayed.  This script was a bit more ambitious, but also a lot more useful!  I’ve wanted to be able to do searches from the Twitter homepage for a long time now, and seeing the hot topics – and not having them limited to just politics – is an added bonus for anyone interested in marketing and trend-watching.

During the lead up to the election, Twitter.com featured a banner displaying the hot political topics people were discussing.  The full list of most discussed topics was available on the Search Page, but without a handy link to get there from Twitter I didn’t visit as often as I might have.

With the new Twitter Search Bar in place I feel more connected to the rest of the Twitter community.

Installing the script is a two step process:

1. Download and install the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox
2. Download and install the Twitter Search Bar script

Whenever you visit the Twitter homepage you’ll see an extra banner at the top of the page with your search box, and the most discussed topics on Twitter.

  1. Hi Stuart

Addage to our twitter convo What I meant was adding a top bar to a page on a domain like http;//twitrefresh.com with all your twitter tools so that I can use that domain to access your tools rather than using FF, does that make sense? ;)

Think about the way Twitrefresh and Stumbleupon do it for Chrome and Safari users, as in a static toolbar embeded at the top of the page…

Still not sure thats clear enough ;)
