In addition to being the Web Manager for the University of Guelph, I’m also available for freelance project based work, technical training, and web consultancy for your business.

My work has included web design, development, marketing, training and strategic consulting for small start-ups, artists, large corporations, government agencies, and internationally recognized colleges and universities. My focus is on helping organizations develop strategies for managing their web content in an efficient and cost-effective way.

Web Design and Development

My recent design work for the University of Guelph was recognized as being at the top of it’s class by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education. This is high praise considering the excellent work done by in-house designers and design agencies working in this field.

When it comes to realizing a design through code I’m very experienced with standards based web design using xHTML and CSS layouts, as well as integrating content management systems, e-commerce webapps, and custom web application development with Ajax, PHP and mySQL. I’ve been a long-time advocate of using Open Source solutions whenever possible to help save organizations money.

Accessibility and SEO

I have an extensive background building websites that are accessible to the widest audience possible, making your website more usable for your audience, and meeting all legal requirements for accessibility. Accessible websites are also more compatible with search engines making this an excellent approach to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) without resorting to any sort of tricks or hacks.

Online Marketing and Web Business Consultancy

Creating a great website is just the first step in an effective web strategy, and I can help provide guidance and strategy for online marketing, and develop effective content publishing workflows for your business.

With over 15 years experience as a professional web designer, and 10 years working in web and IT management, I frequently work with legal counsel on issues involving intellectual property and internet law, as well as contributing to government committees to develop standards for websites in Ontario.

Training

Complementing my role at the University of Guelph, I’m also a faculty member in the Department of Media Studies at University of Guelph-Humber in Toronto. In addition to the web design courses offered there, I can also provide training for small groups on search engine optimization (SEO), effective use of social media, web development with javascript and php, as well as web design techniques using PhotoShop and DreamWeaver.
