Dead Ends, Massachusetts

Tuesday, November 4th, 2003

Visit Dead Ends, and step into the graveyards and dank basements of this small New England town. Written by Nate Piekos, and inspired by a love for zombie movies, Dead Ends is an ongoing saga released a chapter at a time. Dead Ends adds a touch of the classic 80s “choose your own adventures” for some interactive fun. Nate asked me to collaborate with him on the website for this project, and the CSS developed there will be the subject of a new article.

Blackout 2003

Wednesday, August 20th, 2003

The lights went out on Thursday afternoon, and the website was down until sometime on Sunday. Email’s been hit and miss as well, so if you haven’t heard back from me… best to send your message again. One nice thing happened during the blackout – at night you could see all the stars in the sky, even in the city.

July Redesign

Thursday, July 10th, 2003

The new version of the site is finally online! For this design, I really wanted to do something with a bit more texture in it. Most pure CSS sites are also light on graphics and have a really minimalist look to them. This design let me get a little more creative with PhotoShop, and try some new CSS tricks with the links. Thanks to Jeff McCartney for his feedback on the design, and Nate Piekos for the use of his excellent heading font.

Monday, June 16th, 2003

This week’s issue of A List Apart shows you how to clearly but unobtrusively let visitors know which accesskeys correspond with the links on a page. This is the latest in a series of articles I’ve written on improving accessibility with Cascading Style Sheets. Thanks to Jeffrey Zeldman, Erin Kissane, Tanya Rabourn, and Jeff McCartney for all their help.

Toronto Star Interview

Tuesday, June 10th, 2003

I was recently interviewed for an article on blogging that appears in today’s edition of The Toronto Star. There have been a number of interesting developments in blogging recently, including audblog and audioblogger for posting audio clips to your blog. This past Saturday was the First International Moblogging (Mobile Blogging) Conference in Tokyo.

CSS Menus on WebReference

Thursday, May 29th, 2003

This week’s Webreference.com update by Andy King includes the Pure CSS2 Drop-down Menus I posted earlier in the week. The update includes links to examples of other hierarchical CSS menus by some talented web designers.
