Design Meme

We’re back after a short hiatus while moving house, returning to work from paternity leave, and working on a few other projects took the focus away from keeping Design Meme updated. Now that things have settled down a bit, the site should see more regular updates once again.

For the next two months we’ll be working on a major redesign of the University of Guelph website. The site was last updated in 2002, and while it’s still a passable design, it really is time to bring it up to date and use some modern web design and development techniques.

It’s also an opportunity to consider whether we stay with MovableType or move over to Wordpress for managing our news and events. SixApart recently announced MovableType 4 beta, and while it looks encouraging, there’s still a much larger community for Wordpress. I’ll be speaking with SixApart next week about MT4, how it compares to Wordpress, and also MovableType Enterprise which offers LDAP integration—but at a substantially higher license cost.

If I can find a good LDAP plugin for Wordpress 2.x that might make the decision to move to Wordpress a bit easier.
